December 2026 medical mission

Support a medical mission in Sierra Leone this December.

Help MaCHO bring compassionate consultations, essential medicines, health screenings, and practical education closer to families in rural northern Sierra Leone.

Care cannot wait

For a family far from care, a medical visit can change what comes next.

When a child is sick, a parent is managing a difficult pregnancy, or an older adult is living with untreated hypertension, the distance to healthcare can turn an ordinary concern into a much harder decision. Long travel, limited transportation, and the cost of reaching a clinic can all stand between a family and the care they need.

MaCHO is preparing for its December 2026 medical mission to Sierra Leone to help bring that care closer. Led by Dr. Kadija Conteh-Barrat, the mission will build on MaCHO's ongoing work in rural northern Sierra Leone, where the team listens to patients, treats what it can, shares clear health information, and helps families understand the next step when more care is needed.

This work is rooted in relationships with local healthcare professionals, community health volunteers, families, and leaders. Their knowledge helps the team focus on the gaps that matter most, from common illnesses and chronic conditions to medicines, referrals, and health education.

What your support prepares

A mission built around practical care, not promises.

01

Medical consultations

Support helps the team assess common illnesses and ongoing health concerns, explain what is happening, and offer a clear next step for each patient.

02

Screenings and prevention

Health screenings, practical education, and early care-seeking information can help families address concerns before they become more severe.

03

Essential medicines and supplies

Medications, wound-care materials, and clinical supplies help make a consultation more useful when treatment is available and appropriate.

04

Care that continues

Support also strengthens the follow-up, referrals, and ongoing clinic services that help a single visit become part of a longer path of care.

A clearer path forward

Good care includes what happens after the visit.

A medical mission can offer relief in an important moment, but many health needs require more than one conversation. A patient with high blood pressure, diabetes, pregnancy-related concerns, nutrition challenges, childhood illness, or a complicated recovery may need education, monitoring, or a referral to a higher level of care.

That is why MaCHO connects its outreach to its continuing community work. Families can receive practical information about symptoms, treatment, and when to return. When specialist care is necessary, MaCHO helps coordinate the path to referral and follows up through the community whenever possible.

Your support helps make that continuity more dependable. It helps the team plan for the supplies, transportation, communication, and follow-up that allow care to be useful beyond a single day.

The work behind each visit

Compassion needs a practical plan.

MaCHO's upcoming mission is being prepared around the real work of reaching rural communities: clinical care, essential medicines, screening materials, health education, transportation, and the supplies that let a team care for patients safely and respectfully.

Financial gifts give the organization flexibility to respond to the needs identified by clinicians and local partners. A gift can help with the practical costs of caring for patients, getting resources where they are needed, and keeping care connected to MaCHO's year-round community health work.

Medical supplies can also be valuable when they match current needs and can be safely accepted, transported, used, and maintained. Before collecting or sending items, please contact MaCHO so the contribution can be coordinated thoughtfully.

Bring others with you

One introduction can expand the care MaCHO can provide.

Individuals, businesses, schools, faith communities, healthcare organizations, and community groups can each play a useful part in preparing this mission. A group may make a financial gift, sponsor a practical need, organize a fundraiser, connect MaCHO with in-kind resources, or share the appeal with people who care about health equity.

Partnership works best when it is specific and coordinated. MaCHO can help a prospective partner understand the mission's current priorities and find a meaningful way to contribute.

Questions, answered

About MaCHO's December medical mission.

When is MaCHO's medical mission?

MaCHO is preparing for a medical mission to Sierra Leone in December 2026. The organization is gathering the financial support, medicines, supplies, and partnerships needed to make the mission as useful as possible for the communities it serves. Preparation matters because a mission is most helpful when the clinical team, local partners, supplies, and travel plans are ready to work together. Supporters are helping MaCHO prepare before the team arrives, rather than asking families to wait for care that has not yet been organised.

What will the mission provide?

The mission is planned to provide medical consultations, health screenings, essential medications, practical health education, and support for people facing barriers to care in rural northern Sierra Leone. Each patient comes with a different concern, so the team does not promise the same outcome for every visit. Instead, it aims to listen carefully, assess what can be addressed, explain the next step clearly, and connect people with further care when that is needed.

Can I donate medical supplies?

Yes. Please contact MaCHO before collecting or shipping supplies. The team can help match a contribution to current needs, acceptance requirements, travel arrangements, and the ability to use and maintain the items well. This coordination protects patients and makes a donor's generosity more useful. Supplies that cannot be safely transported, stored, or used can create an extra burden, while the right items can directly strengthen the care clinicians are able to provide.

Can my business, school, or community group help?

Yes. MaCHO welcomes partnerships from businesses, schools, faith communities, healthcare organizations, and community groups. A group can give, sponsor a practical need, organize a fundraiser, or help share the mission with others. A partnership can be as simple as introducing MaCHO to people who care about health equity, or as involved as gathering a team around a coordinated fundraising or supply effort. The most valuable support is practical, respectful, and connected to current priorities.

Will my gift only support one day of care?

Mission support helps make the December outreach possible and also strengthens the practical follow-up that makes care more useful, including medicines, supplies, education, and MaCHO's ongoing community clinic services. A consultation is a valuable starting point, but ongoing care may involve a return visit, health guidance, a referral, or access to continuing community support. Investing in both the mission and the work around it helps MaCHO build a more dependable path for families, rather than treating care as a one-time event. This approach also gives local partners a stronger foundation after the mission team has returned. Reliable care is built through attention to the practical details that families experience: knowing where to seek help, understanding what treatment is for, having a way to ask a question later, and recognising when a referral cannot wait. Supporters help make that careful, respectful continuity possible. Every contribution, whether large or small, helps the team prepare responsibly and respond to people with the dignity they deserve.
